Dr.
Getzin is a board certified family physician with a certificate of
added qualification in sports medicine. He graduated from Amherst
College. He returned to his native New Jersey where he went to medical
school at UMDNJ-Newark, New
Jersey Medical School. He completed his Family Medicine residency
at Brown University.
Dr. Getzin completed his training through a one year sports medicine
fellowship at Ohio
State.
He moved to Ithaca in 1999 to work as the head team physician at Ithaca
College (a position he currently holds).
Personal athletics:
Dr. Getzin played football, basketball,
baseball, and wrestled while in high school. He played college football
as a defensive lineman. He played rugby at New Jersey Medical School
and during his residency with the Providence Rugby Club. Upon meeting
his wife, Karen LaFace, an Olympic spring board diver for USA, he realized
he needed to learn to swim. Although his swimming has not been extremely
successful, it facilitated a transition into triathlons. He is the founder
of the Ithaca Triathlon Club. He participates in running races from
5ks to marathons and in triathlons. He recently completed the 2006 Lake Placid Ironman in just over 11 hours. He currently is a member of the
Ithaca Triathlon Club,
Finger Lakes Cycling Club, and
Finger Lakes Runners Club.
